What is a beautiful house?
A house that makes you feel happy when inside and outside.
How much should we care about beauty?
Alot.
Does beauty enable people to live more happily?
I believe so, we live in an aesthetic world.
How do we accommodate for individual taste?
Synergise rather than compromise.
What kind of building can we expect people to live in?
One that caters as close as we can to the intended person's needs.
What is superficial and what should be considered to
be important in design?
Function is very important, surface materials/colours are superficial.
Should we describe our values in our homes?
Yes a personal flavour from the designer is important.
Is beautiful Architecture a luxury or a lesson?
Doesn't have to be a luxury. Key elements can be learned from.
What about ethics and morality?
Very important. Research into the clients needs.
What is considered frivolous or decadent in design?
Little features e.g finials on roofs.
Why do we find it difficult to agree on what is
beautiful?
Because beauty is in the eye of the beholder-One man's trash is another man's garbage.
Does gender play a part in these ideals?
In some ways yes but not as much as it would have years ago.
How does culture or race influence the built
environment?
Traditions and customs can alter forms as they adhere to function.
Is age or generation something that you have to
consider?
Yes, people's concepts have changed.
Are political opinions important?
Not in western society.
What is the impact of religious attitudes?
Depends on what is needed to suit their customs.
What about sexuality?
Research into the individual-can be wrong to stereotype.
